Road Ends in Water

We don't know
Where we will go
By the shapes in the road
And the lights of the towns passing by
It's all show
Choking on fumes
Down in windowless rooms
Under watch of scanner glass eyes
You escape
Down a plastic highway
To an unsetting day
Where you hope to keep time standing still
Road ends in...
We go
Down these buckling roads
Breathe slow
Watch the sun growing cold
Swim through acid rain
As their houses burn down
Speeding along to the beat of a murmuring heart
This road ends in water

The House Party
03:35

Jeffrey stumbled along down suburban streets, carrying his shoes in his hands, five beers buzzing through him and around him like a halo. He was looking for a party to crash. Turning a corner he saw a crowd of people milling around a huge house. Drawn to it like a moth he pushed his way through the crowd, mounted the porch, opened the door, and went inside.
Jeffrey thought this was the largest house he'd ever seen. He passed through room after room swarming with people of every kind. No one wanted to talk to him, and he felt hostile eyes follow him wherever he went. A black ball of panic formed inside him and started sinking through his guts. Pushing his way through the people he found a bathroom in the hall. He opened the door, he locked it, curled up into a ball by the toilet, and waited.
He couldn't tell how long he waited in there. But he finally realized that he could no longer hear anyone outside. Cautiously he opened the door a crack and peeked out, and he realized that the house was now deserted. Not even the drinks were left behind from the party. He realized he couldn't remember where the front door was. Searching around he couldn't find so much as a window. The hallways wound on and on. The lights began to hum, and he felt a strange nausea overcome him. He came to a stairway leading downwards that he could not remember from before. Something was following him he realized. Like a man forced by fire out the window, he went down the flight of stairs.
And he went down the flight of stairs.
And he went down the flight of stairs.
And he went down the flight of stairs.
Running and running and running away.

Well I'm sitting at this bar drinking like a dog
I have got no money and I got no job
My woman she did leave me for another man
And the notice she did send by telegram
Chasing that old dragon to the bottle's bottom
Trying to lose myself in this dusky autumn
My foot's in my mouth and my head's in my hands
Well I guess I's born to be a rambling man
Sitting all alone sipping Tennessee whiskey
In a dusty old box down in Mississippi
I'm drowning all my sorrows and they are a-plenty
On this October eve in bleak 1920

Sleep in this place
And you'll leave not a trace
In the breath of the halls
Or the dark of the walls
Throw your voice down the stair
And you won't find me there
I am lost in the red
Where she once kept her bed
For a door is a mouth
And a mouth is a house
And the stairs lead you down
To the belly of the whale
Feeble, unclean
Disappear by degrees
Close yourself in a word
And lose it in the leaves
In the belly of the whale
Step through the door
To the halls that he bored
Winding dark through the deep
And then throw away the key
In the breeze, in the leaves
And the roots of the trees
There's a place you can shine
That you'll never again find
So you crawl through the dark
And your skin turns to bark
Swallowed down by the beast
To the belly of the whale
I know I'm falling too
Still I see your lights of blue
From the spiral of the stair
You always knew I wasn't there
Sleep now at the end
Having circled back again
You've found your way home
Through that old man's dusty tome
I miss you
